Eco-friendly
furniture rulebook (according to us)
Everybody talks about natural, sustainable or ecological furniture these
days, often without even specifying what makes them so, trying to appeal
to the increased sensibility of consumers to these topics, as a marketing
strategy.
In our opinion, the criteria to define what makes a piece of furniture
eco-friendly are numerous and rigorous:
1.
Eco-friendly furniture has to be made of natural materials,
not necessarily recycled ones. Although recycling doesn’t use
up natural resources, they are not quality materials and they are not
produced respecting environmentally friendly standards.
2.
Eco-friendly furniture is high-quality and has to be
long-lasting: its long useful life generates less waste, with real benefits
for the environment.
3.
Eco-friendly furniture is made from wood which comes from well-managed
forests, where the cutting is planned and meets Forest Stewardship
Council standards.
4.
Natural furniture resects the communities of people
who live in forest regions, and have often lived there for centuries,
for whom the forest is a source of richness and a necessity for survival.
